About Ben Meyer
Benjamin Meyer (2003)

I am very passionate when the topic concerns computers and programming. Many friends of mine who only know me through the computer, know me as icefox. I am an active Linux and Open Source advocate. In my free time I am a developer in the KDE project along with being the main developer for many Open Source applications and tools.

I was born in East Lansing Michigan, but don't remember much about there because my family moved numerous times around the northeast while I grew up. My first real experience with computers was when my father brought home a Macintosh SE in 1989. From then on I took every opportunity to learn about computers. From reading the Macintosh manuals cover to cover to watching a video from the library on Object Oriented Systems in middle school even though I didn't understand any of it till years later.

During high school I was exposed to computers to a greater degree and even got to take two programming classes on Pascal and C++. In 1997 while working at a cyber cafe I purchased (and built) my first computer. Credit must go to my friend Frank for teaching me quite a bit of the basics of computers, for putting up with my constant stream of questions, and also for introducing me to Linux.

I enjoy programming so much that I went to get a degree in Computer Science at Rochester Institute Of Technology in upstate New York. While there I joined the Computer Science House and made many friends. Being surrounded by individuals who were all interested in computers, many of whom knew more then me at the time, was quite a beneficial experience. I learned more from being at CSH then I did attending classes. I was being introduced to many ideas and lessons that I had never before been. Being at CSH also launched me to where I am today.

In 2002 I was married to my high school sweetheart, Jennifer Ann Rogers. We moved to New Jersey, then Long Island, and Oslo Norway where we are currently living.

When not spending time with my wife, my spare time is spent programming or reading books on the theory behind different programming components. When not working on the computer I also enjoy collecting the toys from the cartoon show Transformers.

Here are a few fun facts about me: I enjoy books such as Hamlet, Binary, Someone Like Me, and Dark Mirror. In the fall I like to take walks with my wife. My favorite food is Jen's lasagna or the meat combo pizza served at Papa Gino's. One quirky little thing I like is brand new socks. The best way to fall asleep is in the arms of my wife.
